I am astounded at the way in which the world keeps spinning despite what’s happening to its people. The ability to continue moving, despite the most painful, debilitating effects of disappointment, loss, and fatigue amazes me. Is it a result of resilience or stunned, blind response—the mind’s ability to keep the body moving, like one remembers familiar routes without stopping to consider whether to turn left or right?
In those moments, guideposts of familiarity help. A focus on what we know to be truth, provides a foundation on which to lean. And a strong shoulder, a knowing smile, and the certainty that the sun will continue to rise, is sometimes all we have. In those moments, it is enough.
